What moves the price
Mostly two things: the price of steel and the cost of shipping it to you.
- Steel and shipping costs at the time
- Shipping distance to your site
- Travel for our construction crew on Quonset installs
- Extras such as an overhead crane
Questions buyers ask
Is the estimate a quote?
No. It's a range built from our current per-square-foot prices. A quote is priced for your building and site, subject to steel and shipping costs.
How long does delivery take?
It depends on the manufacturer's schedule and the distance to your site, so we give you the timing with your quote. Once it's on site, most installs take 4 to 6 weeks, and some run 6 to 8 months.
Do you only sell in Ontario?
No. We sell and deliver anywhere in North America, and we build across Canada with a focus on Ontario.
Can I buy the building and build it myself?
Yes. Contractors who do their own installs can buy supply only. See supply only for contractors.
What slows a project down?
Permits, more than anything. Our architect handles permits and project management.
How much does a 40x60 steel building cost?
A 40x60 ft pre-engineered building is 2,400 sq ft: about $48,000 to $72,000 to supply and $38,400 to $60,000 to build. As a Quonset, the same footprint is about $28,800 to $43,200 to supply and $19,200 to $24,000 to build, plus travel.
What does a 10,000 sq ft steel building cost?
As a pre-engineered building, about $200,000 to $300,000 to supply and $160,000 to $250,000 to build, before extras like an overhead crane.
Is a Quonset cheaper than a pre-engineered building?
Per square foot, yes. Quonset supply runs $12 to $18 against $20 to $30 for pre-engineered. They suit different jobs, though, so price the one that fits the building you need.
What does a warehouse cost to build in steel?
A steel warehouse is usually a pre-engineered building, at $20 to $30 per sq ft to supply and $16 to $25 to build to framed openings. Doors, interior and finishing are separate. See commercial steel buildings.
