Pro Building SolutionsSteel buildings

Steel building foundations and footings.

The foundation carries every load the frame puts on it, so it's designed from the same engineered drawings as the building. Here's how that works, and what to plan for.

Why the foundation is engineered, not guessed

A steel frame sends its weight, and its wind and snow loads, down through the columns into anchor bolts set in the concrete. The size and depth of the footings depend on those loads, on your soil, and on how deep the ground freezes where you are. That's why the foundation design comes from the engineered drawings for your building, not from a standard chart.

  • Every building we sell is designed and engineered
  • Foundation drawings from our engineering partners
  • Engineered foundation kits with pre-engineered buildings
  • Anchor bolt layout matched to the frame

Plan the foundation early

The foundation drawings are part of the permit set, so they come before the order, not after delivery.

  1. Deposit for the building and foundation drawings
  2. Revisions with you until they're right
  3. Permit, handled by our architect
  4. Foundation built to the drawings, then the building is delivered and built

Foundation questions

What kind of foundation does a steel building need?

One engineered for that building. The footings and anchor bolts are sized for the column loads, the soil and the frost depth at your site, and they come from the building's engineered drawings.

Do pre-engineered buildings come with a foundation design?

Yes. Our pre-engineered buildings come with engineered foundation kits from the Canadian manufacturer.

Who designs the foundation?

Our engineering partners prepare the structural and foundation drawings with the building, so the anchor bolts line up with the frame.

Does the foundation need a permit?

In most places it's part of the building permit. Our architect handles permits and project management.

Start with the building.

The foundation is designed with it. Send the size and the site location.
